Eyes barely open

Some shots that I took in Singapore on a Hasselblad 501cm. These were using the mirror lock up feature but seems to have not worked properly and created a sort of blinking photo. I quite like how they turned out and seem a lot more interesting as you can’t see the full frame but just a sliver. All shots were on Kodak T Max 400 and Kodak 160VC at f/2.8

Here are some more Hasselblad shots from Singapore. I mentioned these friends in a previous post, please check out their work on Flickr. I am really excited to think what a huge time saver film will be when shooting weddings. All of these Hasselblad photos were as processed with no Photoshop work at all. These were taken on quite a contrasty film and I generally like more subdued pastel tones. I will be working with Fuji 400H, Fuji 800Z, and Ilford 3200 black and white from now on. When shooting digital I feel that photos straight out of the camera always need something, but with film it seems that I’m not going to have to do much!

Hasselblad

Here are some Hasselblad shots from Singapore. These were only scanned from the prints so don’t judge the quality too much. For our wedding and portrait photography we will be scanning them using a Fuji Frontier scanner in New Zealand for high resolution and quality. But these photos have shown me that film is still king and I love getting photos back that I don’t have to post process! I’m not sure what has happened with the black and white shots, maybe when I was using the mirror lock up switch it stuck or I didn’t do it right… Anyway I’ll be posting a lot more over the next week as there are so many great photos, and I also have the Contax photos which are amazing too. The color film was Kodak 160VC and the black and white was Kodax T Max 100. All photos were shot at f/2.8

Singapore – Beaches and Friends

Here’s a handful more of our trip to Singapore. It was great to catch up with our Flickr buddies DOVEVADER and Miss Maomao (second photo). Who would have known that Singapore has beaches… They were actually not too bad except for the dirty water… I’m not sure I’m a fan of plastic drink bottles when I swim.

Some more holiday photos from Singapore. These show the Singapore Flyer and some of the amazing views that can be seen from it. A couple of photos also show the area down by the “Merlion” statue. On another note yesterday we bought a Contax 645 Medium Format camera which I have been shooting all day with. I’m looking forward to getting the films developed and scanned to post up here.

We just returned from an amazing but lightening quick trip to Singapore. It was amazing and I loved what I saw. I only wish we could have spent more time there. The thing I loved most about it was as a New Zealander I really appreciated the diversity of cultures there. This post contains a few images which show the diversity I’m talking about. Over the next week I will be posting up travel photographs and portraits from the trip, also hopefully soon I can get the films developed from a Hasselblad I borrowed from Francis. Anyway I hope you enjoy the coming blog posts.
