Awa odori – Kagurazaka Tokyo

A traditional dancing festival held in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. The participants shouted “This is our dance, we can’t stop dancing” over and over again. This festival went on for over three hours and was a crazy environment to be in. This is a sample of a selected set of 65 images that I will be making into a book. As wedding and portrait photographers we really enjoy shooting anything to do with people. Capturing the spirit of an event is often a difficult and challenging task but is really rewarding we you feel like you have accomplished it. We are really looking forward to getting back to New Zealand and photographing some of the weddings we have lined up.

Had a walk around tonight with a new Voigtlander 50mm f/1.1 that I picked up recently. I’ll post some photos of it soon for those that are interested. Hopefully the weather will be nice tomorrow so I can get out and take some more photos.

Haven’t posted anything in a while, been pretty busy with stuff not related to photography so it was nice to get out today and shoot a few photos. Went out to see some exhibitions in the Hiroo and Roppongi area and stumbled on a Lamborghini showroom. They would have had a hard time cleaning up all the drool I left behind…

Still going through some of the photos I took on the first day I got my rangefinder. The view that day from the Tokyo Metropolitan Tower was so clear, I really need to head back up there, maybe the South Tower this time. These files seem to be so sharp, I’m actually starting to think they’re sharper than what I get from my 5D…

I’ll be shooting a wedding here in Tokyo early April so look out for those photos soon.

Rangefinder

Well, today was both an exciting day, and an expensive day… I finally gave in to my recent obsessing and bought a rangefinder and a Voigtlander lens. I’ll post some pictures of my precious tomorrow, but here are the first of many images to come using it. These were shot from the Tokyo Metropolitan tower on the 43rd floor.
