I thought I would break up the wedding photography with a quick post from Tokyo. I shot this for Viviane three days before leaving Tokyo in Daikanyama. I love the feeling I get when looking at this photograph, it feels really warm although it was shot in the middle of winter. I’ll post some more up from this shoot this week. I hope you all had a great weekend, great enough to get you through this working week. Hasselblad 500 CM, Fuji Pro 400H, Fuji Frontier scan.

I have so much personal work to blog! These past couple of weeks we’ve been going around cool cafes and restaurants spending our time hanging out, meeting friends and shopping. I’m really going to miss places like this, there are so many hidden treasures around Tokyo, hidden in seedy looking buildings on the eighth floor or down a creepy alley. I’m really going to miss exploring. These were shot in nearly pitch black lighting at Attic Room in Shibuya, Tokyo. Leica M7, Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1, Fuji Pro 800Z film.

A couple of days ago I had the chance to photograph our friend Viviane. She’s from Taiwan and is living here in Tokyo studying art. She’s also interested in photography and you can check out her site HERE. I’m waiting on developing the medium format roll shot on the Hasselblad until I get back to New Zealand but will be posting more from this session in the new year. Hope everyone’s having a great holiday! Leica M7, Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1, Fuji Natura 1600 film.

There are a lot of things I’m going to miss about Tokyo when I leave. It always amazes me to see Japanese women going through the effort of wearing a kimono solely for the purpose of going to the park… I think I’m really going to miss the fact that Japanese people really care about aesthetics, in any form. An appreciation for presentation and attention to detail is something that I really admire in Japanese culture. Well I guess it’s back to jandels and beer bellies. Leica M7, Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1, Fuji Pro 400H film.

This is another example of a happy accident on film. I shot over and over on the last frame of the roll I was using, it looks like a Photoshop collage but it’s just multiple photos shot on top of each other. This one worked out really well and I love the textures of the grass and stones that have layered up. This was exposed at ISO 400 on Fuji Natura 1600 film. If any of you have any questions about how I’m shooting any of my photos or just want to chat about photography especially film send me an email. This is one big passion of mine and helping others and sharing knowledge is what this industry is all about. Leica M7, Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1, Fuji Natura 1600 film.
