November 4, 2009 - 7:09 pm - As per your last blog entry, I completely agree with you. Where I work I see so many photographers with their Canon's and Nikon's taking the same pictures over and over again. It has got to a stage whereby people think by having expensive camera gear they become great professional photographers. What these people will never develop however is their own style and their shots become so alike every other tried photographer that they lose what photography is foremost, a form of art. And art is unique to every person. I really think you've got a good thing going on here, your work has a charm to it that many don't have. Whats-more I think 1 roll of film can teach a photographer much more than 1000 shots on digital. Keep it up the both of you. I really hope when you get back you can create that niche market for your style, because I know it's better than what is out here at the moment. I'll put in a good word for you where I can as well =). If you ever come up to Auckland, I'd love to have a drink with you guys. By the way, you're not giving up on the M8 are you? Anyway, your last two shots here, it could be just me but it looks like your cheating too much with Bokeh =D
November 4, 2009 - 7:16 pm - Hey Ari, haha yeah maybe that bokeh is cheating! We'll be in Auckland on a regular basis as we have a lot of friends up there. I completely agree with everything you've said and thanks for the kind words about our work! We're not giving up on the M8 but will be using it a little less, I've just sold one of the M8's we have and bought an M7. We really don't want to be spending hours and hours in front of the computer editing digital shots to look like our film work. I'd personally rather just shoot the film, send it to the lab for processing and scanning and be focusing on other tasks that will actually help us get more work. Looking forward to that drink, do you have a blog or website?
November 7, 2009 - 3:49 pm - No proper website at the moment. I've actually got one in waiting but my priorities are elsewhere currently. By the way, are you using the Contax 645 handheld mainly? It really is a nice MF camera (with good fast glass and a high shutter speed). It's a shame that all MF cameras aimed at digital these days opt for having fixed pentaprisms. Waist down viewers are so useful.
November 10, 2009 - 10:14 pm - Yeah using it hand held all the time. I wouldn't be caught dead walking around with a tripod in my hand...
