HI, WELCOME TO THE BLOG OF ST CLAIR PHOTOGRAPHY

We are wedding and portrait photographers based in Hamilton, New Zealand. We currently skip back and forth between Japan and New Zealand shooting everything from weddings to model portfolios and portrait sessions. We are available to shoot nationwide including Waikato / Auckland / Wellington / Christchurch / Dunedin, and also internationally. We shoot both medium format / 35mm film, and also some digital. Have fun looking through our photos, come back often and see what we're up to. We hope to hear from you whether you're interested in meeting with us, or just want to chat about photography.

Pre-Wedding fun

I Love these photos from a while back at a pre-wedding dinner. Really looking forward to photographing our next wedding and a couple of engagement sessions in Wellington in a few weeks. It’s going to be a seriously fun time. I just realized today I’ve missed the ‘Monochromatic Monday’ post so I’ll make up for it next Monday by doing a double post. Contax 645, Zeiss Planar T* 80mm f/2, Fuji Pro 400H film.

Grand Finale

This is the final shot I’ll be posting from Viviane’s session. This is probably my favourite from the session. Hasselblad 500 CM, Zeiss Planar T* 80mm f/2.8, Fuji Pro 400H.

March 7, 2010 - 7:09 pm Ari - Whoooooo I can see why this one is your fav! That ray of light looks something like a wing to me. Really good work man, good model too. =) Square format is just good for everything.

March 10, 2010 - 10:23 am Jason - I agree, square format lets you break all kinds of compositional rules. Can't wait for my film scanner to arrive!

Yum Yum Summer Time

I have recently found I really enjoy shooting food photography, maybe it’s the colours, textures, or just the fact that I love to stuff my face every now and again!

Monochromatic Monday

Thought I would kick off a little series of monochromatic Monday’s where I’ll post a black and white image at the start of every week. Here’s a cool black and white of the other half of St Clair Photography, enjoy. Hasselblad 500 CM, Zeiss Planar T* 80mm f/2.8, Ilford Delta 3200 film.

Midweek Photo: Ebisu

Scene from Ebisu, Tokyo, Japan. Hasselblad 500 CM, Zeiss Planar T* 80mm f/2.8, Ilford Delta 3200 film.

February 25, 2010 - 3:41 pm Kevin Charlie - Absolutely love the bokeh in this image! Gorgeous!

February 28, 2010 - 5:48 am Ali - hey Jason, beautiful musical bokeh! those bokeh literally makes sounds in my ears.

February 28, 2010 - 6:20 pm Jason - Thanks very much Kevin and Ali. I really love this image but have a few other great ones from this night that I'll post soon.

V for Viviane

Here’s a few more from the portrait session with Viviane. Photographing someone like this is a piece of cake! Hasselblad 500 CM, Zeiss Planar T* 80mm f/2.8, Fuji Pro 400H

Nippon

While I’m back in New Zealand the other half of St Clair Photography is still in Tokyo for a few more weeks. Eiko has been shooting friends in and around Tokyo, I absolutely love this photograph. It’s nice to see a fresh perspective that differs from my own, where I would probably focus on the subject here she has focused on the background which I think has made the photograph a lot stronger. This was taken on a Ricoh GR1-s which we picked up about a month ago. It’s a little 35mm film camera and the lens is razor sharp. Ricoh GR1-s, Ilford XP2 Super 400 film.

Coca-Cola bicycle?

One random night in Tokyo we stumbled upon a Coca-Cola bicycle. Never seen one before, anyone got any ideas if it’s special or not? Leica M7, Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1, Fuji Pro 800Z.

February 19, 2010 - 1:06 am Ari - Ahh do you carry around fairy lights where ever you go or something? If only I could find bikes positioned so well... I'd imagine Coca-Cola would of had delivery bikes back some years ago. This was probably one of them. Looks cool though, shiny.

February 19, 2010 - 10:02 am Jason - Haha, this just happened to be Christmas when there were some great lighting displays. Love this bike, I wanted to pick it up and carry it home with me!

Some old stuff

Here’s a few more from the portrait session I did with Viviane before I left Tokyo. Hope you’re having a good week, comments are always welcomed so pipe up! Hasselblad 500 CM, Fuji Pro 400H film, Fuji Frontier scan.

February 19, 2010 - 4:45 pm ozzy - These look so good!! Love the color

February 20, 2010 - 10:23 pm Jason - Thanks Ozzy, yeah the color came out well. I'll post some more from this set at the beginning of the week. Looking forward to seeing more photos from you on your blog!

Attention to the details

This post is dedicated to the details from the last wedding I photographed. The details were amazing and helped to make their day that bit more special. I really enjoy hunting down and photographing all of the details and it’s a real challenge to find the best way to highlight each one. Mixture of Contax 645 and Leica M7.

February 16, 2010 - 6:28 pm Kay - Oh I love it all! The colours are amazing and the compositions are wonderful! Seeing these photos makes me super excited to learn more about & shoot film!

February 18, 2010 - 9:56 am Jason - Thanks Kay! Go and buy a cheap film camera and get out there and start shooting. If you want any ideas on what to buy I'm great at spending other people's money (as well as my own).

March 2, 2010 - 4:24 pm Rob Oresteen - Nice work. I love Fuji 400 H. Nice details...

March 2, 2010 - 5:14 pm Jason - Thanks Rob, it's definitely a favourite of mine!
